Spare parts: the secret to success

In the world of powder coating, electrostatic paint applicators are indispensable. They are responsible for generating the necessary charge for the powder particles to adhere to the part to be painted.

These applicators have various components which, because they are constantly in contact with the powder paint, wear out due to friction. This wear and tear is normal over time, and here in this post we will list some of the benefits that replacing these components can bring to the electrostatic powder coating process.

1 – Reduced paint consumption:

This is the first major benefit of replacing worn parts with new ones. Many of the components responsible for transferring powder to the applicator wear out over time, compromising the application. As a result, more paint will need to be applied to handle the job.

As in the example in the picture, we can see the very pronounced wear of a venturi nozzle, which is responsible for the powder transfer process in powder pumps.  To check the integrity of the nozzle with regard to wear, we have an easy-to-use gauge:

2 – Increased service life of the applicator:

Some applicator components serve as protection for others, such as the gun’s internal deflector. It acts as a wedge, deflecting the powder so that it doesn’t wear out the gun’s internal insert.

On some gun models, it is possible to remove this deflector and replace it with a new one, without having to replace the entire insert.

3 – Avoid Corrective Maintenance:

Replacing worn parts during preventive maintenance increases the useful life of your applicator, preventing it from suffering any major problems that compromise its use, as well as guaranteeing operator safety. It’s important to note that the time this equipment is used is directly linked to the process and the number of shifts a company has.

Filter elements, for example, if not replaced preventively, can cause the cascade to overheat and consequently burn out due to saturation.

4 – Better application quality:

Compromised components in applicators tend to cause problems during application, such as high paint consumption and poor application quality.

Problems with the gun’s cascade and insert can compromise the applicator’s ability to generate a charge for the powder particles to adhere to the part to be painted.

Problems with wearing parts such as the powder hose, venturi nozzle, powder pump injector, among others, which can compromise the transport of the powder to the applicator.

5 – Manufacturer’s warranty:

The correct use of original spare parts not only extends the life of your applicator, but also maintains the warranty of your equipment in accordance with the supplier’s warranty policies.

Original parts have been studied in terms of material quality and are designed to deliver the best paint performance.
